Potasyum iyodür potasyum hidroksitin
(KOH) iyot ile işlenmesiyle üretilen iyonik bir bileşiktir. İyot ilk olarak
yaklaşık iki yüzyıl önce deniz yosunlarında keşfedilmiştir ve tıbbi olarak
tiroid bozuklukları, frengi, sedef hastalığı ve atopik dermatit gibi çeşitli
rahatsızlıkların tedavisinde kullanılmıştır. En geleneksel olarak ise doymuş
bir potasyum iyodür (KI) çözeltisi olarak kullanılır.
Potasyum iyodür (KI), kimyada
kullanılan en yaygın bileşiklerden biridir. Ağırlıkça %76 halojen iyot ve %23 alkali metal
potasyumdan oluşan bir bileşiktir. KI, iyotun sıcak bir potasyum hidroksit
çözeltisi ile reaksiyona sokulmasıyla hazırlanır; ürün daha sonra kuru
reaksiyon karışımının karbonla ısıtılmasıyla iyodüre indirgenir. Bir sağlık
sisteminin ihtiyaç duyduğu en etkili ve güvenli ilaçlardan biridir ve Dünya
Sağlık Örgütü Temel İlaçlar Listesi'nde yer almaktadır.
POTASYUM İYODÜR KULLANIM ALANLARI
Potasyum İyodür (KI), tıp, ticari ve
endüstriyel uygulamalar gibi birçok alanda kullanılan beyaz kristal tuzdur. Bu
inorganik Bileşik;
· İnsan beslenmesinde besin takviyesi (iyot
takviyesi) olarak kullanılır.
· Hayvan yemlerinde besin takviyesi (iyot
takviyesi) olarak kullanılır.
· Tuzlardan kaynaklanan oksidasyon nedeniyle
iyot kaybını önlemek için kullanılır.
· Hipertiroidi tedavisinde kullanılır.
· Hormonal dengenin desteklenmesine yardımcı
olur.
· Hücrelerden ve dokulardan klorürlerin,
bromürlerin, florürlerin ve cıvanın filtrelenmesine yardımcı olur.
· Hastanın rahat nefes alabilmesi için, mukusu
parçalamak amacıyla balgam söktürücü olarak kullanılır.
· Tiroid bezinin boyutunun küçültülmesine
yardımcı olabilir ve aynı zamanda üretilen tiroid hormonlarının sayısını da
azaltabilir.
· Fotoğrafçılıkta, gümüş iyodürün
hazırlanmasında da kullanılır. Film fotoğrafçılığının yapımında kullanılan bir
kimyasal olan gümüş iyodürün (AgI) yapımında gümüş nitratla birlikte
kullanılır.
· En yaygın katkı maddesi olarak sofra tuzunda
kullanılır.
· İyodür ve boya üretiminin hammaddesidir.
· Analitik reaktif olarak yaygın olarak
kullanılır.
· Tıpta balgam söktürücü, idrar söktürücü, guatr
önleyici ve hipertiroidizmde ameliyat öncesi ilaç olarak kullanılır.
· Potasyum iyodür (KI), nükleer olaylarda
solunabilecek veya yutulabilecek radyoaktif ajanları nötralize etmeye yönelik
bir tedavidir.
· Diğer endikasyonlar arasında yer alan
hipertiroidizmin tedavisinde, tiroid bezinin radyasyon koruyucusu olarak ve

Serin, kuru ve havalandırılmış bir
alanda, sıkıca kapalı, ışığa dayanıklı bir kapta saklanmalıdır. Su, yakıcı
güneş ışığı ve olası yangın tehlikelerine karşı korunmalıdır. Fiziksel hasara
karşı korunmalıdır. Uyumsuz maddelerden izole edilmelidir. Ürünün sararması da
dâhil olmak üzere olası bozunma sorunları nedeniyle uzun süreli depolama
önerilmemektedir.
